My first trip to Foison! Foison is a village up high in the mountains bigger than PC. We have so many patients who come from that area and Dustin is here to work on some projects in that area so I was stoked to finally get the chance to see it. We went by motorcycle. Dustin is a pretty good driver and only almost dumped us one time (I’m kidding Dustin!). I’ve heard the area is beautiful and green beyond description but they have been lacking in rainfall for a while and much of it was dry and brown. Very disheartening when you think about the fact that most people survive on their own gardens, which depend solely on rainfall. I’m hoping it’s not another kick start to a wave of malnutrition.

But the highlight: we visited John, our two year old post malnutrition kid, who spent a couple months in the hospital with us last year. He stole our hearts too. We still see him every two weeks to follow his weight and health and help out the family when we can. He and his family live on top of one of the mountains surrounding the village in the valley. A small grass hut with almost nothing inside and the land surrounding is their garden looked quite parched. The family is typical. A single mother with her many children, and all the grandkids who have come from those children who are seeking love (or payment) in different ways. It’s sad…sobering…
