It’s been a while since I could update… because my dad is here! He came last week because he decided he missed me badly enough to come see me in this pretty insane country. So far he’s having a blast…at least that’s what he tells me. It’s time he sees all this with his own eyes and I’m super happy for the company. Last Saturday Rob and I picked him and my friend Sara, (who is a nurse and will be here for a couple of months) from the airport. Oh man…we went in on Rob’s motorcycle and up until then I forgot how afraid I was of things going fast. Don’t tell Rob, but I was holding on for dear life for most of the trip. He…can…drive… don’t tell my dad…. I think I already gave him a heart attack when I picked him up from the airport carrying a gigantic motorcycle helmet.
So, this week I’ve been busy once again with work and helping them settle to life here. It’s been pretty great. While I’m busy with work, my dad is working on some shelving for the hospital (and trying to keep the kids out of his tools, unsuccessfully I must say). And yesterday we had quite the adventure with going to the beach…you can ask him about that laterJ. It involved some moto taxis, two flat tires, a pretty sweet beach, a few naps, and a long haul on foot back to Passe Catabois.
Right now I’m starting to work with Sara and figure out how to divide and conquer, which is nice. A shared workload is better. However, only after a few days Sara found a baby to take care of (Sara!). Little Enel, is here just trying to recuperate after a bout with diarrhea, vomiting, and maybe some pneumonia. His aunt is responsible for him and has 11 other kids at home without a husband, so she couldn’t stay in the hospital with him, hence Sara took on the responsibility. We'll see if she is still sane in a week or so...
