Sunday April 19, 2009

Now we are done with teams for a while, which I’m a little glad (ready for a rest is more like it). I can really focus on the hospital now and the people there. It is full, almost to the max, once again. My thought is when more help comes (ie. Sara), more work comes. It never fails. More Tb and now several malnourished babies (I like to think came especially for Sara) we are really focusing on now. One 6 month old baby who started to swell up a few days ago with the beginning of Kwash malnutrition was our focus yesterday. It was us running down to the hospital every two hours yesterday to force feed her F-75 Unicef milk. I think she will be ok if she continues to take the milk, but has the potential to be a source of frustration. Other than that we are just juggling our outpatient mamba kids, Cinderella project kids, and continuing Tb patients. I’m hoping to rest a little today before it all starts again tomorrow.

Ps. Leah finally arrived yesterday after spending 11 hours in the small airport in Port au Prince. And that was after missing their plane the day before and having to spend the night in Port au Prince. Welcome to Haiti… she brought a friend of hers who has a dream of starting some educational projects in Haiti someday; just to show her around and poke around for some opportunities. I’m excited to have my friend here for the week and for 5 days I don’t have to answer the infamous question I hear almost everyday; “Ki le Miss Leah ap vini isit? (When is Miss Leah coming?)”
