It’s time to breathe some life back into this blog people…
I’m headed down to Haiti in less than two weeks. I am feeling rather lucky and blessed that I am even able to go at this point. My current job is on break and my heart is screaming to get itself onto Haitian soil, so the obvious answer is to just go!
For this little stint (only three and a half weeks for me) I will be going to Passe Catabois with my dear friends Leah and Caitlin, and new friend, Kim. Leah and Caitlin have been putting on summer camps and painting murals in Passe Catabois since I met them there in 2008. These girls are not only crazy, but love Haitians more than most everyone I know. When Jesus gives them a burden and a job, they tackle it with astounding energy and passion. Inspiring to say the least. Going to Haiti is awesome, and spending time with the Beidler sisters is just some icing on this cake.
For the trip, I am going to help out wherever needed, which may look like kids camp, but I’m hoping to get some time in the clinic and hospital too as well as just sit on wooden stools and laugh it up a bit with my Haitian peeps I haven’t seen in over a year. I’m open... All I know is that the timing here seems to be God-directed and I (we) are expecting big things to occur, even if we can’t see them or they aren’t tangible.
Please visit Leah’s website for the organization that facilitates their work: http://makingroots.org/. Financial support is always welcomed if you feel a burden to do so. This helps support the camp and Haitians through long term relationships. Also, read about past summer camps at http://camphopehaiti.blogspot.com/. (Links also on the right side bar below).
We could use your thoughts and prayers in this. Most importantly for me that I won’t die in the July Haitian heat. My heat tolerance has died since I’ve been sweat-shirting-and-winter-coating-it-up for the past year here in the Northwest (as I sit here eating ice cream next to my space heater in July). But in all honesty, just that we would be vessels for whatever God has in mind to do and that we would embody love...in whatever form that may be.
