Just sitting here on the back porch of the guesthouse in Passe Catabois, arguably one of the best places on earth. The breeze is lifesaving as the heat today is pretty suffocating. I thought I was doing pretty good until this morning I woke up in a pile of sweat!
But even with the heat and all, I am SO happy to be here. It’s been one year…
Getting here was an adventure of it’s own, but really, who would expect anything less? It’s Haiti! I arrived in Port au Prince on Wednesday afternoon and somehow maneuvered the chaos that is exiting the airport with 120 pounds of luggage, and by myself because Leah’s flight had been canceled, thank you very much! (Let’s be honest, I was pretty impressed with myself). Let me just tell you the airport fun involved a bus, a room with two million people and two teeny baggage claim belts, and suitcases covering every empty space that was not occupied by feet.
Of course the adventure continued the next day as I made my way up north to Passe Catabois. I’m not sure how many times the thought, “I’m going to die” crossed through my head, but seriously, what can you do? Turbulence in a small airplane, crossing the river in a boat with holes that is being “bucketed” out en route, and then the moto ride, which I will just leave up to your imagination.
But I made it…in one piece. Seeing old friends has been pretty much solid gold. And then Leah showed up yesterday afternoon, thank you Jesus. Leah, plus every piece of luggage!
It’s hot… Cobwebs and dust everywhere. Already had a hatching of spiders on my pillow and I’m like, meh… and wiped them off. It’s so good to be home.

Ryna,
Good to hear that you are enjoying yourself at one of my favorite places on earth too!
I could sit at the back of the guesthouse for hours and just look at the view.
Hope Emily misses you guys, you've already been there and done that during hurricane season.
Love you, say hi to Leah for me.
Glad you made it back to PC! So excited to hear about your adventures these next few weeks!
