It's time to float on my own I guess. Annelies, Dustin, and Amanda left for The Netherlands today, so it's me and myself in the guesthouse (Besides Guerlande and Matilda on the other side). We will see how it goes... I'm praying no tarantulas find me in the middle of the night, but I have some comfort in knowing, from our last experience, that the night guard is very skilled at squishing them against the wall with a large stick or his shoe (the last one was a good size bigger than my hand). One good thing is that I now know the recipe for some pretty awesome banana cookies and have no one to share them with.
Today I started morning rounds with Anne-Marie. She started doing devotions at the hospital as well. Several of the patients have told us they don't believe in Jesus straight out, so pray they would be open to giving him a chance and that being here in Passe Catabois would be a changing point in their lives. It's interesting here because a lot of the patients in the hospital have to be here for months at a time for treatment, whereas in the States they could do it all from home. It's a perfect time to build good relationships. Annelies is very passionate about that, especially with those who are sick in the hospital, so I'm hoping I can fill her shoes at least halfway while she's gone.
Yesterday we got another boy with what we think is TB. His stomach is filled with fluid, it looks as though he could be 9 months pregnant. He's 18. Yesterday we tried to drain the fluid from his abdomen and got 2.5 liters out, but this morning his stomach didn't look much different. And today we also got another TB patient who is 17 years old. I think that brings the total up to 7 people we are treating right now.
Also yesterday greeted us with another delivery. However, this one was perfect because it was fast and all was well. Annelies and I came to the clinic yesterday morning to find a woman in labor on the table and Anne-Marie still in high heels, skirt, tank top, butcher apron and head lamp. It was quite hilarious. She said she thinks it was the first time she delivered a baby in high heels!
